Report food safety and quality issues now via social media

Hyderabad: To address grievances related to food poisoning, lack of quality and safety of food products and ingredients, the Telangana government on Sunday urged people to call (040-21111111) or contact food safety officials via the microblogging social media platform Twitter ( @AFCGHMC) for a quick fix.
State Health Minister T Harish Rao during a review meeting here on Sunday with officials from the Food Safety Commissioner, Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) and safety inspectors from all districts and senior health officials, assured people that prompt food safety checks will be conducted by food safety officials after receiving complaints through the call center or Twitter account @ AFCGHMC.
“There is no denying the long-term impact on public health if food safety and quality standards are not implemented and maintained. To maintain proper food standards, four food safety wheels have been developed with a cost of Rs. 2.4 crores have been launched. To ensure that the food testing lab at IPM is equipped, Rs. 10 crore of equipment was recently procured,” Harish Rao said during the review meeting.
The Minister of Health urged the Ministry of Health to launch concerted efforts to raise awareness about food safety. Health Secretary, SAM Rizvi, CM, OSD, Dr. Gangadhar, TSMSIDC, MD, Chandrasekhar Reddy, Food Safety Commissioner, IPM, Dr. C Sivaleela and others were present.
