How India’s Rapid Security Forces Succeeded in Less Than 40 Hours

In a successful operation, security forces avenged the killing of social media star Amreen Bhat by Lashkar-e-Toiba militants at his house in Chadoora town, Budgam district late Wednesday night. Four militants, including two implicated in the murder of a TV entertainer, were killed in two separate encounters in Pulwama and Srinagar districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday.

Earlier, as the encounter erupted in the village, Kashmir Area Police Inspector General Vijay Kumar said that the two killers of Amreen Bhat were trapped in the encounter.

“The two killers (LeT terrorists) of the late Amreen Bhat, an artist trapped in the Awantipora encounter: more details to follow,” the IGP had tweeted.

Afterwards, the Kashmir area police said in a tweet: “The two trapped terrorists were killed during the encounter, search in the area was ongoing.”

The terrorists were identified as Shahid Mushtaq Bhat from Hafroo Chadoora Budgam and Farhan Habib from Hakripora Pulwama, both newly recruited to LeT.

“They had killed a television artist on the instructions of the commander of the LeT Lateef. An Ak 56 rifle, four magazines and a pistol were recovered from the slain terrorists,” the IGP wrote in a tweet.

Police said the pair fled to Pulwama after killing Afreen.

On Wednesday evening, three LeT terrorists broke into the social media star’s house in Budgam district and killed her while injuring her 10-year-old nephew.

“Around 7:55 p.m., terrorists shot a lady Ameen Bhat D/o Khazir Mohd Bhat R/o Hushroo Chadoora at her home. She was taken to hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. His ten-year-old nephew who was also at home was shot in the arm,” police said shortly after Amreen was killed by terrorists.

Police said three terrorists from the outlawed terrorist outfit, LeT Terrorist Outfit, were involved in the heinous terrorist incident.

A relative of Amreen said she was inside her home when two men knocked on the door and asked her they wanted to shoot a video and would like her to act.

“Amreen refused saying she was not making videos with strangers, so one of them pulled out a gun and fired two bullets, one at Amreen and one at her nephew. She ran towards the house but collapsed and when we transferred her to the hospital, the doctors pronounced her dead,” a relative said.

He said while two terrorists who had entered the house were carrying out the attack, a third was waiting outside on a motorbike to pick them up.

While condemning Amreen’s murder, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted: “No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Budgam. Our deepest condolences to the family of Amreen Bhat and our prayers for the speedy recovery of her injured nephew. We are firmly resolved to demolish the terrorist ecosystem which continues to receive reinforcements on the other side of the border.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while expressing his shock at Amreen’s murder, took to the microblogging site to write, “Shocked and deeply saddened by the deadly militant attack on Amrreen Bhat. Unfortunately, Amreen lost his life in the attack and his nephew was injured. There can be no justification for attacking innocent women and children like this. May Allah grant him a place in the Jannat.

“His nephew is a 10-year-old boy. Yesterday it was the daughter of a police officer injured in an attack and today this young child of 10 years old. How can these attacks be justified? asked Omar.

However, another former chief minister and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, found an opportunity to attack the Indian government over the killings.

“In Kashmir, sadly, mourning has become the norm and a daily ritual. Countless innocent civilians are killed one way or another and devastated families are left to pick up the pieces. What will it take for the GoI to recalibrate their J&K policy to end this bloodshed,” she tweeted?

“GOI continues to blow its trumpet of normalcy in J&K even when such horrific incidents suggest otherwise. My heart goes out to the family of Ambreen Bhat and pray for her nephew to make a speedy recovery,” she wrote.
