A very powerful plague is raging on the internet like wildfire these days; a plague of badly written rubbish distributed by “professional guest bloggers. Is this Guest Blogging done the wrong way, or is Guest Blogging done the right way?

While it’s easy to blame guest bloggers in this case, as an experienced guest blogger, I can tell you that the problem isn’t always the fault of the guest blogger. In fact, I can boldly say that the issue is mostly with the brand or website the guest blogger is working for – depending on who is in charge of your campaign, the issue could very well be with the SEO company involved – here’s why:

What is “poorly done guest blogging”?

1. Guest bloggers are paid at lower than standard rates: It probably costs between $50 and $200 to write quality content of around 500 words. Rates could be much higher depending on the writer involved and their work experience, but the reality is that you will rarely see a REAL professional writer creating a quality 500 word article for you for less than $50.

Now imagine that a guest blogger is paid $30 for write AND publish a “quality” guest post. How the hell do you expect this guest blogger to perform?

Most guest bloggers will happily work at this rate, but they try to catch up by increasing the number of articles they can post per hour and thereby doubling their income. What better way to do that than to write substandard content and send out mass emails to 40 different blogs? It is certainly an example of guest poorly done blog.

2. No Strict Guest Blogging Customer Policy on Content Quality: In the case where a website pays premium rates to publish guest posts, this problem can also arise if there are no strict quality content guidelines.

The people will still take the easy way out.

Hiring “professional guest bloggers” who know nothing about what they are doing will not help your business. In fact, it’s the opposite; Although it may appear to benefit you in the short term, the long term result can be disastrous.

Here are some dangers of using poor quality guest posts:

1. It can damage your brand: When customers start to see as spun content promoting your brand on crappy websites, you can be sure that it will affect their opinion of your brand.

Since your goal in writing these guest posts is to get backlinks, you might think it doesn’t matter – but it does. Focus on quality and it will have a lasting impact!

2. It can damage your link profile: Google is getting smarter and low-quality guest posts are reduced. Let the reverse happen and imagine what happens if you get 10 quality guest posts published on authoritative blogs. These links will only increase in value and replace the crappy content that is reduced. When this happens, you benefit!

2. Opt for thematic relevance: Depending on your niche, it can be very difficult to find blogs that talk about the exact same thing as yours. While these blogs may exist, getting a guest post published on them is another issue.

A great way to solve this problem is to opt for topic relevance. Look for quality but similar blogs and look for a way to link your content to their website and your product.

The reason most companies hire professional bloggers invited to spam other blogs with so-called “guest posts” it’s because they want instant results. These guest bloggers are cheap so they can post a lot of guest posts.

Imagine spending $40 for a guest post versus $200 for a guest post? You can get five guest posts for the price of one. Unfortunately, the first option will give you quantity while the second will give you quality.

You don’t need quantity, you need quality!

Stop looking for instant results. As with any other form of link building, it takes time to see results from your guest blogging efforts. Be patient and wait!
